Soft washing vs Pressure Washing
Standard pressure washing can destroys a roof because of the high PSI. It may appear to have cleaned your roof or home exterior, but it only attacks algae, mold and mildew growth at the surface. Though the stains are gone, the roots remain, and the stains grow back thicker and blacker, usually within 6 months!

The streaks that are staining the roof are actually a bacteria called Gloeocapsa Magma. This is the main culprit for most of the roof staining in Michigan. Moss and Lichens also grow where destructive growth has been started by the fungal growths.
